About this maqam
This represents a version of Bayati usable for most Egyptian and Levantine repertory, including the most typical modulations, except for a full use of Bayati Shuri (which requires a B♮); Kurd is passable here (D-E♭-F-G), but only really in the context of Ajam B♭ (a true Kurd would have a higher E♭). Jins Hijaz also doesn't sound great with this low E♭; a higher version would be better. E.g. "Ba3eed 3annak," "Ah Ya Hilu," "Samai Bayati il-Aryan." This version of Bayati was developed by Sami Abu Shumays.
JinsJins (pl. ajnas): a scale fragment of 3, 4, or 5 notes with a specific mood and melodic vocabulary.Visit the link to learn more modulations possible within this pitch set
